What ever happened to Laverne and Shirley? Weren’t[ they fantastic! They were a dynamic due making their way in the big city and were always looking out for each other. Although they worked hard, they were two fun spirited girls. What I liked most about them is that they were real women. They were not these magazine cover ideals, sfelt and perfectly molded. They wore tennis shoes and jeans that didn't fit perfectly. They weren’t always made up, either. One was too short and a bit nerdy and the other had a big nose and buck teeth but they still managed to live a fun life. Bring back the good ol’ days! Bring back Laverne and Shirley. Two city girls living a rich life.
was this before of after your CAPPUCCIOTTO???!!!
ReplyDeleteUhem! I believe you mean svelt! AND I beg to differ, Shirley was definitely svelt! As for perfectly molded, I'd have to check the 1970's bible of hotness but I'm pretty sure busty wasn't in there back then. Point being: Shirley was pretty damn hot. Because of this fact, Laverne was able to ride on her hot as coat-tails all season long.
ReplyDeleteThink about it, "Laverne"... a bitch with that kind of name would never be able to get a top tier woman's job like checking the beer bottles for imperfections. Keep in mind, once all the secretarial positions filled up and the nursing schools met their quotas, pretty girls would dominate every other job market. As they trickled down, the hags (like Laverne) would have to scrounge whatever they could get.
Noelle, you're right "They weren't always made up". But, I think its fairly evident that Laverne was nothing more than a street fairing call girl with a coke habit until Shirley came along. So I'm sure Laverne had her fair share of experience with make up, a fact they touched on briefly when they brought in the abusive boyfriend character in season 2. But I digress, Laverne was a whore. Besides, who names their kid after a slummy dried up southern california city? They must have had some skewed intuitions about the future of SoCal real estate because they were way off. Why not name here Orange, or Anaheim, or the all too logical: Santa Monica? Clearly she was prophesied to fail.
And they wore tennis shoes and ugly jeans because they were broke as shit, not out of some moral fortitude. I think you missed the point. Laverne & Shirley was an expose of the bottom feeding american woman. I, of course, extrapolated all this from the youtube intro video, but it holds true nonetheless. Laverne & Shirley was a priming mechanism to get young intelligible girls on the "I'm lucky if I work" bandwagon. A band wagon YOU apparently slept through.
But it looks like a good show I guess.
That show kicked ass and I loved it. Consequently what you see on the television is phenomenal acting. My cousin, rest his soul, worked for MGM and worked at the studio they filmed this show at. Unfortunately toward the middle and end of the show, they HATED each other something terrible. he has told us about the fights they used to have. Sad because they made such a wonderful buddy show couple. Made life seem like a constant flow of fun, like that was what it would be like when you grew up.
